Blasting Paste again, detonated by .2g AP, this time in a witness plate test. Good density (about 2g/cm3), pretty brisant, and even here at around 10mm it's probably well over its critical diameter.

  • Nice work man! btw MEKP is the same as Methyl nitrate?

  • @XBiteABulletX MEKP is Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide, not nearly as powerful as Methyl Nitrate (MN), MEKP is a primary, like AP

  • Could isopropyl nitrate be substituted for the methyl nitrate for a less volatile, less sensitive mixture? How much would the power suffer? Oh, and would there be any benefit to gelatinising with nitrocellulose?

  • I'm not sure of the brisance of isopropyl nitrate, but I know methyl nitrate is very brisant, and this stuff is actually pretty stable, I once used about .1g of old ap(that couldn't be packed much) as a primary, and it shattered the ~2mm thick plastic casing, and splattered the mix all over the garage door, but didn't set it off, and you could gelatinize with nitrocellulose if it is a better plasticizer, but power might suffer

  • I like how he shuts the door as he runs away :)

  • @jhfgkhgable have you ever made isoprpal nitrate? its almost imposible with out super cooling it

  • awesome my two fav HE's. I lost a refrigerator to 2 grams ANMN with ETN/AP det, was supposed to be a small test that ripped the whole thing in pieces. nice work though. Ps i distil my MN muhahahah

  • @jhfgkhgable I've been there, done that. isopropyl nitrate is very unsensitive. A better option is Ethyl Nitrate. Almost as powerfull and a lot less sensitive.

  • Very nice.

    Keep up the good work.

  • haha! 'kinda like jabba the hut' lol

  • deathwish. holding that much homemade shit in your hand would freak me.

  • Nice one, but I highly doubt it got a density around 2g/cm³.

ETN has a density of 1.6, MN of 1.217g/cm³, the 66/34 OB mixture will be around 1.45g/cm³.

Think of it like this: the molecular interactions between MN and ETN molecules are almost equal to the interactions between MN and MN molecules, and ETN and ETN molecules (due to their chemical similarity, both being linear nitric esters), and this means that the density of the mixture will be not higher than the arithmetic mean density.
