Nope. These players are the strongest chess players in the world, hence their title, Grandmaster. If one grandmaster sees a forced mate in 4 or 5 moves, wouldn't the other grandmaster see it as well? Why would he struggle to the bitter end when he knows it's a dead loss. If it's a tricky endgame with hope, then yes, he should struggle to the bitter end. However, in this game, Fischer played Bc4 intending the following mate @5:02. 1. Bc4 ... 2. Rh7 Rf6 3. Rh8+ Rf6 4. Bf7+ Kd8 5. Rxf8++.

Why do chess grandmasters always give up when they realise they're gonna lose? Shouldn't they at least play to the bitter end?
