Why not put a plywood floor underneath? Then you would have total security. You could let them out during the day into a portable fenced in area.

it would be best if you baried the wire under the ground about 1 foot down, trust me, the fox got 2 of my chickens and just pushed the rocks aside...

Yes we plan to shift the coop from time to time to allow the grass to recover.

Haha, I wasn't expecting to see the Guru again. The design is pretty neat. Do you get many foxes in your back yard?

We have never seen a fox in the back garden, but we have in the street out the front, so they are around! It is hard for them to get in the garden as we are in a mid terraced house and there is an 11 foot wall at the end of the garden. To get in they would have to jump over about 10 of our neighbours fences. I don;t rule out the possibility but it has not happened yet.
