@aoeuPrime You are right , the sun is not on fire. Fire needs oxygen in order to burn. But molten rock does not need a fire to produce heat, light and radioactive decay only gravity.

If gravity is producing heat then the law of conservation is wrong.

Well you can pull this definition of fire:

7. (noun) The elements necessary to start combustion.

Based on that definition I'd say we're allowed to use the word fire. ;-)
