The ending credits to "Columns III" in 8-bit using Famitracker's fancy-shmancy emulation of Konami's VRC6 thingy. Not perfect, but, hey, it's an easy listen.

This is one of my favorite songs from a game! I thought it could use an authentic 8-bit touch before a crapload of GSXCC losers started making their own supposed "8-bit" versions themselves.

It's a little quiet for some reason. Surn the speakers up, and you'll be okay.

  • How exactly does this GSXCC thing work anyway? Does it just take the instruments in MIDI file and play back the same notes as pulse instruments? Or is it more complicated than that?

  • @mrbuttercup37

Yep, GSXCC Basically spits out MIDI files using 8-bitish sounds. Though I must point out that unlike a lot of so-called "8-bit" remixes on YouTube, mine aren't "created" in GSXCC. I track from scratch and by ear using the nifty Famitracker program ( It's really painstaking D:), so they use the sound chip of an actual 8-bit system, the NES, instead of a MIDI and an interpreter that does it automatically. Doing it the legit way is more authentic and sounds better in my opinion. ;)

  • I still enjoy coming to your page to listen to this beat ^___^!!!

  • @kprime284

Haha, Thanks again. I'm workin' on summin' as we speak, actually.

  • sounds a bit like it, for sure. Pretty odd that it can be that close.

  • @TheCheezWizz

Thanks to the extra sound channels of the VRC6 chip, I could be more flexible.

    Neat, eh?

    Yeah, I guess not.

  • subbed. this sounds delicious

  • Sounds cool.

  • @geoflcl I agree with you completely about the authenticity part. All of the GSXCC tracks I've heard sound like they have at least 20 channels working at the same time(!!) when most 8bit consoles only had four channels, only three of which could actually play recognizable notes.

It's definitely more fun when you make it from scratch I think because you can play around with the loops and beats to make a more interesting sound. I have to admit though, some of the gcxcc mixes don't sound half bad.

  • I am afrojayjay and I approve of this remix.
