Mesa, Arizona Police Chief George Gascon was invited as a witness during the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary's Hearing on "Public Safety and Civil Rights Implications of State and Local Enforcement of Federal Immigration Laws" held on April 2, 2009.

Chief Gascon is one of the strongest critics of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's racist policies and abusive actions in neighboring Maricopa County, Arizona,

In this brief conversation Chief George Gascon discusses the negative impacts of the 287g program on immigrant communities, and the actions of local police enforcing immigration legislation and its consequences on civil rights and racial profiling, mostly against Latinos and Indigenous peoples.

  • All negative comments against the new police chief will be deleted? Then why leave this page open to comments, you idiot?

  • @johntheadams because almost all of the comments from anti-immigrants come with insults, offensive, xenophobic remarks. I won't let hatred and racism be part of my channel.

  • Sanctuary cities aren't bad.

  • Chief Gascon is what San Francisco needs to combat the high, unrelenting surge in crime. He is absolutely perfect for the position as the Chief of Police and I can only be very enthusiastic with any progresses currently being made. Warning.... All negative comments against our new police chief WILL be deleted.

  • Gascon is a true hero.

Thank you for actually lowering crime rates and not clearing cases without investigations like the MCSO does.

  • Gascon was a horrible Chief that took credit for the hard work of others to further his career while promoting a sanctuary city in Mesa. Good riddance Gascon.
