While a teenager, Barry Spanjaard survived for two years in three Nazi concentration camps, the last of which was Bergen-Belsen (the camp where Anne Frank died). Barry gave over 1700 talks about his experiences to young people and school groups. His book, "Don't Fence Me in" has had 17 printings and is now available for digital download on the Amazon Kindle and other eReaders.
He was the focus of an assembly in 8th grade in '85. We had just finished reading his book in English class, and then the next day he came to speak to our class personally! What an amazing individual, and even though it has been shown that the Holocaust figures had been exaggerated for political purposes, his experiences were very real and very tragic. It was a rare inspiration to have had the chance to have met him, to shake his hand, and to have him autograph my copy of his book. RIP.

Amazing man and he wrote an informative book "Don"t fence me in"...I was lucky enough to hear him speak at my high school in the late 80's. I feel for what he's been through and for the family and friends he lost in the holocaust.
