That shaft looks almost exactly like the one in the Del Coronado Hotel in SanDiego. Its elevator has been in operation since 1888.

Very ornate and beautiful caged elevator car and shaft. Back then, it seems the interior architecture details of buildings, including elevators, were designed to be as artistic looking as they were functional, if not more so as in the case of this rare elevator gem.

Super nice elevator!
We still have some few elevators from the late 1800s left in Denmark. I have uploaded one from 1898 but sadly the original doors from 1898 have been replaced by automatic modern scrap metal doors. I hate elevator modernization, it is crime to me. I hope so much this elevator will remain unmodernized.

That elevator is PRETTY!!!! I am not sure how many of these are left! Union Station has one but they trashed up the shaft with an ultra modern cab!
