there's a button that says "subdivide" at the window at the bottom of the screen where all the buttons are. and also know that it will only subdivide what is selected. so if nothing is selected it won't sbdivide anything. if everything is selected, it will subdivide everything.

how did you subdivide it

in edit mode select the object you want to sub divide and click the letter w and it will say subdivide so click that and just keep doing it until you are satisfied
