How To Make Beautiful Earrings Based On The Spiral and Figure 8; in this video I demonstrate how to construct these beautiful earrings in easy to follow, step by step instructions. The link that I introduce you to in this video represents a union of the spiral with a figure 8 link. This hybridization of links results in a uniquely beautiful and elegant new link ideally suited for dangling earrings. To make the actual earrings that you see in the video, I used 18 gauge, nickel silver wire. When I create these earrings in sterling silver, I use .035 sterling silver wire, soft, round. You can also experiment with the many wires available at craft stores. I particularly like to use Black Stove Pipe wire. Black wire gives these earrings a distinctively unique look. The construction of these earrings that combine the spiral with a coil requires the use of three different types of pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, and diagonal cutters.

Each earring consists of three individual links, and each link is constructed from a six inch length of silver wire. To complete the earrings once the basic links are finished, and linked to one another, I attach them to a pair of pre-made ear wires that I purchase at a craft store.

  • Very nicely done. Makes me see the project completed with detail. Thank you for this.

  • @TutressToYou Thank you for your comments. My latest blog article talks about the same earrings and how you can reduce the amount of metal needed. This can come in handy should you decide to use silver or gold wire. Good luck to you!

  • Beautiful I love all the projects you do there lovely .

  • @pinkbunny186 Thank you very much for your comment and thanks for watching!

  • Beautiful earrings. I look forward to making them. I did have one question; if you end up trimming off 1.5 inches for the coil, why not just cut 4-inch strands to begin with instead of 6-inch strands. Seems like a lot of waste, especially if you are working with the more expensive metals.

  • @SuperBenfu Hi - the answer to your question just went up on my blog. I'm not allowed to post the link here, but you can find it on my channel sidebar.

  • @GINGISNAPS You're welcome and thanks for giving me the feedback. Let me know how it goes.

  • @realisticart The chain nose pliers I was using does have the ridges. I just recently started working with wire so I will have to invest in some without the ridges. I have bent nose pliers without ridges, but they were not working well for me in this project. I also have nylon plyers, but the wire was constantly slipping out of those. Thank you for your quick response.

  • @GINGISNAPS It's important to use a good quality flat nose pliers that has a smooth surface throughout. This minimizes scratching and marks on the wire as you bend it. Some flat nose pliers have small ridges which can definitely leave unwanted marks. Check your tools and let me know - I'll try to advise you as to what works best.

  • @eileenfb1948 I hope you'll try some more projects soon, Eileen! Thanks very much for watching!

  • The earrings are beautiful and you are a great teacher. I would like to know how you keep from scratching the wire with your chain nose pliers? I used my chain nose pliers to make the spiral and the spiral is all scratched up.
