When the express elevators in the Millennium Building, one of New York's most famous landmarks, start to malfunction and behave in erratic ways, elevator mechanic Mark Newman is sent out to find the cause of the problems. His investigation meets unexpected resistance and not everybody seems to be happy with his involvement. After a gruesome and deadly incident, in which a blind man falls into the shaft and a security guard is decapitated, the police start an investigation. They are however not very successful. Mark is determined to find the cause. He is joined by a female reporter, Jennifer, who is looking for a juicy story. Together they try to unravel the secrets behind the mysterious behaviour of the elevator that seems to have a life of it's own. When things get worse and death toll rises, The Government, fearing terrorists are involved, seal off the building. What at first looked like a routine job turns into a horrifying nightmare in which Mark has to face an enemy whose blood thirst is only met by it's unpredictability. An enemy that is determined to fight off any intruder looking for the dark secret that lurks inside the belly of the building. An enemy that has to be feared. An enemy that has to be taken .......DOWN.

This remake (if I can call it a remake at all) doesn't hafta do any fuckin' thing with the original. The classic one is just crap, but since it's fromt the ol'continent and it's made in '83 and Duch as well, I say it's loveable! But this crap... hell, nobody read the script? Flyin' creep with rollerskate & young prics who try to act... fuckin'ell! This shouldn't have ever been released!

@Cj4dj ik heb eindelijk de lift op dvd kunnen krijgen was zo lang opzoek naar die film (origineel)

down heb ik daarna weer gekeken en ik zeg maar zo:

een film is niet een topper door alleen special effects toe te voegen er moet spanning inzitten

de spanning en spannende muziek vind je bij de lift, en de special effects bij down/the shaft

toch blijf ik de lift t beste vinden (die scene in down dat de bodem openklapt.... ziet er goed uit maar zeer ongeloofwaardig) maar ja das mijn mening ;)

Ja daar voel ik goed me bij, en als jij dat zielig vindt zegt dat meer over jou dan over mij, jij met je overvolle glas. Je zal natuurlijk niet erkennen dat je wat probeert te compenseren, en de boel gelijk trekken met je superieure intellect,.. dan kom je idd heel slim over natuurlijk.

@Kaandorpius Eh wat? Er is geen enkele reden voor jou om mij uit te schelden als dat. Serieus, respecteer andere mensen man. Ik weet dat Dick Maas het heeft gedirigeeerd, maar je moet maar afwachten of de amerikaanse acteurs de emoties wel goed kunnen over brengen. Je had niet gedacht dat ik je kleine scheldwoord verstond he?! Mensen zoals jij, zijn de oorzaak van al de negativiteit op het web .
