The Pompano Piranhas hosted the traditional Santa Claus meet after stopping the tradition about 30 years ago. Jesse Vassallo (Coach for the Pompano Piranhas) found out about this tradition and wanted to continue it by adding a few details that would make the swim meet an experience that no little kid would ever forget. Jesse brought Santa Claus to the meet in an helicopter and Santa Claus came and swam a 25 freeestyle with 7 other little kids and took pictures and walked around the pool and asked little kids what they wanted for Christmas. The meet also was special because instead of paying to enter the pool the Pompano Piranhas asked for gift donations for the Gift Drive for the Broward Children`s Center a provider of a quality programs to infants, and young adults with special needs.
