While looking for wildlife at the Silk Road Covered Bridge in my town of Bennington, Vermont, I was lucky to see and film a young Green Heron.

I filmed him from my vantage point of under the bridge. Notice the sound of cars passing overhead.

The young heron paused on the bank opposite side from me and I recorded him until 3 girls planning on swimming scared him off. I have a feeling that I would have seen him go fishing if he hadn't been scared off.

I managed to film his escape flight and turned the less than 3 secs of flight into 21 secs of video with 21 still photos clipped from the video footage and placed together like a stop motion film.
I am pleased with the results.

  • George I saw a bird similiar to this last year at the Henry bridge right where the waterfall is standing on that cement landing there....the bird had really long legs and looked to be really big...I thought I was seeing things until when I came back through after dropping my dog off at Great Fields..I saw it was still there...this may have been a crane not sure, but wished I had a good camera with me...would have been a great picture with the falls and all.

  • It sounds like The Great Blue Heron. I see them around town from time to time. I have a video posted here with one. All the "action" in that video is in the begining.
