@jaimepaullamb do you mean to actually have every major third, minor third, 7 chord, and major scale memorized? I mean, I know how to figure major scales out, but I don't have them all memorized.

@jaimepaullamb what do you mean? if you don't know the notes, how are you supposed to do that? I'm not questioning you, I'm just trying to understand how it works

@johnnyangel1000 Fuck off and Die. Does your unsatisfied wife let you even touch her anymore?
beginners: theory is very important and when i was ready to learn about it, i did. and that, of course, made sense out of the things i discovered by playing along with records and other musicians. but, i wouldn't approach music (especially jazz!) from such a dry, academic standpoint. USE YOUR EARS. play along. your ears will tell you what works and what doesn't. and, in time, the underlying theory will make sense. because, sadly, if you don't have "big ears", you will never be any good at jazz.

By 1-6-2-5 he means the chords starting on the different steps of the C Major scale. Ex. A is the sixth note therefore A is 6. So 1-6-2-5 means C Major, A minor, D minor, G major.
