1980 Mercedes Benz 300D. Showing my $650 car after putting about $100 in parts into it. New fan belt and coolant, oil and filters. Some new fuses got the fog lights working too. Some people say these old diesels "hibernate" instead of dying off like other cars. For the prepper types, this is a very EMP resistant vehicle as most of the systems run off of vacuum pressure once the engine is running. The transmission and door locks for instance, use air stored in a compressed air canister in the trunk after the compressor builds air off the engine running. You can then have total electrical failure and still drive and shit gears. (I had to do this one with a dead battery. No lights or accessories but the car was driveable.)

  • I had the idle set a bit too high in this video.....turned it down once I noticed it though. Now idles slower as it should.

  • For people worried about EMP (electromagnetic pulse), this might be a very good vehicle to drive as it has minimal electronics. The door locks, trunk lock, power brakes and transmission rely on vacuum to function and not electronic controls. I drove this car with no electronics when a fan belt broke, and I only had the water pump turning for coolant to flow. When the battery ran low, I had no lights or gauges, but the car ran fine.

  • very nice condition for 650 dollar. i bought my 240D -83 from a field where it sat 3 years, cost me about 50 euros / 70 dollar and cost me ca 500-600 euros to get inspected and legal back on the road, now about 1500 euros total for restoring exterior and some small things done. ;) ive got vids of it. love this car, will never part with it.

  • @coolakiIlen007 Yes very good condition for the price. Saw your video on the engine starting after sitting in the field for 3 years. Amazing how well made these cars really are.
