  • Thank goodness for this interpretation and booooo and hisss to the comments about preferring supposed correct period performance. This kind of bullsh*t leads to ballless anemic performances and are not even actually authentic.

Bravo Souzay for this great performance!

  • @bellevillemusique Touché! Souzay is such a wonderful artist !! ;-)

  • was für ein feiner Mensch und Musiker

  • J'aime cet homme, quelle voix!!

  • Bonita aria y una de las más bellas voces de barítono del siglo pasado. Hay que destacar su espléndida dicción y su fraseo que lo convierten en uno de los mejores intérpretes de lied de todos los tiempos.

  • Did you ever live in the 17th century ? Congratulations for being so old.

  • Wonderful voice, but the entire thing is simply too heavy-going. But then in the Fifties they didn't know any better - see the way Sir Malsolm Sargent murdered Handel's music!

  • you're absolutely right. but today we don't have a baritone like souzay.

  • Gotta make a comment on the accompaniment...

The orchestra (esp. continuo) is lifeless... I guess they didn't really understand in the fifties how this kind of music was interpreted (notes inégales, ornamentation, etc). But sometimes it's hard to listen to older recordings because they had no idea about period performance practice.

  • Perfection and then some....
