This is a video of me having a partial seizure. I am 21 years old and have suffered from epilepsy since I was 5. However, this is the first of my seizures that I was ever able to see. When I was younger, I would always wake up after a seizure and ask what happened, my parents, doctors, teacher, and friends would never tell me much more that "You just had a little trouble." Senior year of high school I finally got my seizures under control with the help of a VNS stimulator and medication. For 2 ½ years I was seizure free until my junior year of college when I started to have cluster breakthrough seizures. My roommate (the one who filmed my seizure for me) started to describe to me what actually happened during my seizures; it was then that I asked him to film me. He has been there for me through some of my most serious seizures and I trust him with my life. If the title is offensive to anyone I am sorry but I found that the best way to keep my friends and others around me from "Freaking Out" and calling for an ambulance every time is to show them that I am comfortable with myself and the condition that I suffer from. In college this might mean making a little joke about yourself.
Thanks
-Eric

  • It upsets me very much that you have referred to him as retarded. I live with this everyday and over the years trying to overcome the stigmatism of the issue. Then idiots like you take the issue back 25 years. Grow up and get your room mate some help. You may have to save his life one day. Thank about it!

  • thank you for your comment, i just wanted to clear something up though, when you refer to stigmatism, do you mean the "The condition of being affected by stigmata" as in "bodily marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus." or are you referring to astigmatism, the visual defect? or just the "stigma" of being called retarded?

  • Everyone is entitled to their opinion and what they believe so let's not yell at each other or type in caps. It just looks stupid. If you truly believe this video should not be here, please feel free to flag it as Inappropriate or bring it to the attention of the YouTube staff. I would hate to see people afraid to post a comment because your strong negative feelings. So before you lash out again, think of some better ways of communicating what you want to say and do.

  • Those of us that have epilepsy are special in that, much like blacks calling one another or themselves "nigga", we can refer to ourselves as "retarted". As with black people however, this doesn't give the rest of you the right to use the term when refering to us.

  • thanks, finally someone understands!

  • That looks like a partial seizure with myoclonic action. If it is acted, it's a good performance. If it's real, I hope Eric gave you permission to show it. Disability discrimination and the word 'retard' are at war: please don't use it.

  • Just so everyone knows, my roommate (the guy in the video) specifically requested that I film that seizure because he wanted to see what it actually looked like. And Yes that is a real partial complex seizure. He also came up with the title and tagline for the posting here on YouTube

  • i didn't know you could still make eye contact.. thats kinda cool i guess

  • @uswithoutyou I am writing from this account now because the Photographer5000 account belongs to my roommate (we no longer room together). I have mostly complex partial (same as you) and absence seizures. I have had 6-7 grandmal through out my life. One that I had about a year ago was the worst. I felt a small aura and knew that I should sit down but was talking to a cute girl so I ignored it. When I woke up I had a bandage on my head. :( So much for looking smooth in front of her. Lol

  • what kind of seizures do you have?

i have complex partial and i have had a grandmal once. I take kepra.

  • i have very very very small seizures, you cant even see. but when i have grand mauls, thats exactly what mine look like

  • Would you remember this? I know my Brother can remember, but asking because you seem like you know what's going on (sort of). Scary.

  • this is terrible. my parents and my little brother have epilepsy aswell. i hope your condition gets better

  • thank you for posting this video. My two year old son was just diagnosed with epilepsy. I hope that when he gets older, he will be comfortable with his condition also.

  • man, last time I had a seizure I bit mu toungue very hard

I also made those hand movements and I gurgled like that

  • I have similar seizures, though at times a bit more severe.I'm sorry for you,do you have Grand Mal seizures?I'd like to see one.

    God bless you.

  • do you have auras before a seizure, and if, how does they feels like?
