Gumboot dancing is a century old tradition which originated during the mining era of Johannesburg, South Africa. Dancers wearing gumboots, create rhythms by slapping boots and bodies, using voices and stamping their feet.

  • This video introduced me to something I'd never seen or heard about before -- Gumboot dancing. I can only imagine J-burg miners rehearsing new numbers 100 years ago. Terrific!

  • I'm learning Gumboot Dancing. Deep respect for the history of this dance & the African culture. It's definitely harder than it looks!!
