I have a custom copicat one of the last valve machines I absolutely adore it, it does though as you say require a lot of maintenance I've had to resolder a lot of the innards.
I especially love the rockabilly slap back echo you can get and even just turning the motor off and getting a lush feed into my amp. I have three original Mullard ECC83 in it and it is true Mullard made the best valves!
Wow it sounds better than the Mark IV I had, and that's saying a lot. The BC109's on a Mark IV stay in line even though it's bypassed. I had lots of set-ups, but my favorite was a Gibson Melody Maker through the Copicat Mark IV and into a 65' Fender Bassman head & 2-12 cabinet, or Sound City 120R. I played guitar ( still do) for 20 years then switched to organ for the past 15 years. Organs are so dirt cheap for great models. Highly recommend a Wurlitzer 4500 w/Spectratone,2X12,2X 6x9,a horn,&4!
That thing is awesome. Probably built better than the Echoplex. And if that has the original tubes, then they're about as good as it gets. I assume that acts as a preamp as well and probably affects your tone quite a bit. Reminds me of that Xotic EP Booster pedal (which is supposed to sound like the preamp signal from an Echoplex).
Christ, I don't even own a delay pedal at the moment.

What a fab machine. No piece of digital kit I ve ever tried comes close in simulating the high frequency roll-off.
