I decided to make some videos about playing somewhat difficult songs on bass. My point was to show how would I play the song live. My other goal is to show certain people examples of techniques and ways of using the instrument that I do, and none of the songs are played perfectly (some missing notes and/or lack in the rythmic patterns for a very short time). So it doesn't mean it has to be played like this, and it doesn't mean that the original band played/plays it like I do. But it's close :) Comments/questions are welcome.

Notes on Glasgow Kiss: tuned to BEADG, covering the studio version. I only used the audio file to figure out what's in the bass (no sheet or anything). The main difficulty of it is the constant sound and dynamics of the bass, and the tempo. It's real hard to play it without any mistakes - so I cut out my major hiccups. I also used a mild compress since the solo part should step out a bit, and my bass doesn't react to higher strings that wild (since it's passive).

The main reason choosing not to play the exact sheet note-to-note, because they don't do it live either. I watched several live versions including the G3 DVD, and it's never exactly the same.
Sometime in the future I will post my live version of the song played by my band "Progressive Story".

  • What about using 3 fingers with the right hand?

  • What do you mean?

  • @aazgash Holaaaa brother como estas.?? Donde puedo buscar esa scuencia del la cancion glassgow kiss asi como tu la usas sin el bass?

  • @manystewie Salut, I used the EQ section of Winamp to filter the bass out, and I used no tab, sorry. I'm not even sure if there's a good version of it, I just listened to the song. Good luck with it!

  • @Caneggia12 completely needless & useless. 3 finger doesn't make it easier with string shifts/jumps such as those on this track. Some people seem to think that 3 finger is the ultimate technique but it isn't... it just gives some posibilities in terms of sound and picking speed, that's all. The guy makes it flawlessly with 2 I don't see why he should use his ring finger for this bassline

  • @sebassabes84 I don't really agree with you, it helps string shifts as hell. You always have one finger free when something tricky comes. My hands are only forced physically, when I want them to, there is almost no tension when I play fast. That helps a lot. I dont say it's an indispensible technique, but I strongly suggest every rock/Metal bass players to understand how it works. After they can decide for themselves if they wanna learn it :)

  • hey how are you? it's been a long time.do you still play or cover metallica? hehe but i still like this cover.. can i ask a favor if you could send me a high quality of this vid? hehe thanks..

  • PLEASE TAB THIS SONG :)

  • @aazgash i've played lots of stuff with both & i've realized 3F only gives me a plus in few cases, compared to 2F. I agree, every rock/metal bass should learn it, but it doesn't mean using it the whole time is necessary. For instance, Tony Grey could play everything jmyung does with 2F without an additional effort, it's all about comfort and control. There are some things i play with 3 that i can't with 2, then i use 3F, but i won't make it unless i need it. I don't u play this track with 3?

  • @Caneggia12 Why would it make it better? what is better? faster, easier, better tone. I use it quite often but on this song it's not necessary. Adding an extra finger wouldn't be useful to play it faster cause that's this song tempo, neither to make it easier because of the many octaves, string shifts and accents, since this track is kind of celtic and acents change when u use 3 fingers. Finally, it may give u a better tone or it may not. that depends i'm still thinking it's needless.

  • @sebassabes84 But why not using it? I mean.. Even if he plays this already flawlessly, adding the ring finger would make it only better.

  • this is so awesome...

  • gran cover, saludos

  • @aazgash Ok, thank you very much! :)
