I remember hearing this when I was in the Air Force listening to late night Dr. Demento back in the 70's.
It was funny then and it's funny now.

This was a direct parody of Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John". Frank Gallop was a deep-voiced "urbane"-sounding announcer who was Milton Berle's announcer/foil on his 1947-'48 radio show, and Perry Como's off-screen announcer for years on his TV variety series. Gallop also narrated the first "Casper" cartoons for Famous Studios/Paramount in the late '40s.

This parody was in responce to a lot of wetern ballads from the early 60s ... Like  "Dutchman's Gold" by Walter Brenenan, and "Ringo" by Lorn Greene
