The knight with a rubber chicken was meant to symbolize when a joke had gone on for too long, like at the end with the narrator. The knight, played by Terry Gilliam, would come in, bash the offender over the head with the rubber chicken, then leave. In a twist version, after the anti-climactic punchline to the "dirty spoon" sketch, Graham Chapman's character beats the presenter with the rubber chicken, then gives it back to the knight.
