This video features original oil paintings by Native Texas artist, John Austin Hanna. John grew up in Beaumont and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Advertising Art and Design. After college he and his wife Sherry went to Dallas to try and enter his chosen field of art. On the advice of a friend there they didn't stay but instead headed directly for the "fountain" for illustration art, New York. He was fortunate enough to land a job with Ted Bates agency. Gaining experience as an art director was helpful, but John wanted the freedom of free lance work. The ensuing years found him doing illustration work for such prestigious publications as Argosy, Saga, Car & Driver, Boating, Flying, Automobile Quarterly and Mercedes. In addition he applied his illustration talents to project requirements for international companies such as Harcourt, Brace & World and Random House. His career took a good turn as he moved back to Texas and helped establish a Design and Illustration studio in conjunction with Tracy-Locke Advertising in Dallas. A dream that he has had for years is coming true - to be a painter and make a living doing it. He believes that it is still quite rare to do something that you love and get paid for it and for that reason he considers himself fortunate.
