Looking at that video was a memory I'll never forget. Our building was on Po Shan Road right next to the landslide, and I mean RIGHT NEXT to. We eventually all had to move out for many months, but before we did, we had a birds eye view of all of the destruction. Conduit Road was covered in 15 feet of mud. As a child, it was all very exciting, and we were oblivious to the death and mayhem that was caused.
I was at Glenealy School, primary 4. Students from the school were killed. It was known for a while the building work at the site and hillside, I think in Conduit Road was structually weak and the heavy rain caused the hillside behind the building site to collapse. Local residents had reported the situation to the authorites but nothing was done.
We were in high school - bunch of naughty boys broke into the restricted area around the landslide one week after the accident for adventure in the middle of the night , We even got in some of the deserted apartments there (we didn't steal anything). Some high school memory!
There is an upside to the tragedy. As the flats were mostly occupied by expats, who were on home leave at the time (summer), the death toll was a lot lower than it might have been. Yes, you can still see the scar on the landscape as you enter HK from the Green Island side.

I was a Black Watch soldier at the time and remember being transported to the site to help dif out survivors, it was a terrible sight.

It's frightening.... the Kwun Tong mud slide just rushed down. We saw the carnage on TV -- unforgettable.
