@DavidSarge because people like to stay mainstream and not search far from the music that they know, which is why RnB, Pop and mainstream genres like that do so well, rock, and genres like this have a harder time, regardless how good the music is

@cori910i mean when he play live then he have a band ^^ i know that his album is made by himself and all the other songs yes he is very amazing just a great artist ^^ two days ago i was on a concert from gotye it was so great and funny XD because he often makes jokes by this i saw the documentry but my english is not so god (sry for this ><) so i dont unterstand all the thinks he said (he speaks so quickly XD ) that was very bad for me ;__; i hope he will give more concerts in berlin

@user153i1 I don't agree but I know what you're saying. That could be due to a similar electronic voice processing technique. When Phil Collins first took over as lead singer for Genesis, his voice wasn't very strong as he'd only been the drummer until then (similar beginnings to Gotye) so they processed his voice to add some 'meat' to it until it became stronger through use. Fans liked the sound so they kept it. It has since become very popular & adds a clean quality to the voice.

@Ssweetbaby87 haha Gotye actualy doesn't have a band in the background of his music! he's incredible, he has no band except for some people who do special instruments in some of his songs. He does all the instruments, back up vocals, and records sounds on his computer. If you watch his mini documentry on the making of his album or the making of Eyes Wide Open, you'll see.its pretty cool :) He's AMAZING.
