Hayrapet Arakelyan, Saxophone, Eurovision Young Musicians - GERMANY

Born in 1991 in Yerevan, Armenia, Hayrapet began studying the saxophone and piano at age 8 and spent from 1999 to 2003 at the Alexander Spendiarian Music School with Prof. Alexander Manukyan. In 2002 he began taking part in master classes with Prof .Theodoros Kerkezos of Greece) and Prof. Daniel Gauthier of Germany whose class he was to join in 2005 at the Cologne "Hochschule für Musik".

He is the winner of numerous saxophone competitions all across Europe, from Scotland to Russia and has played with several prestigious Orchestras in Armenia, Russia and Germany as well as the Julliard School Orchestra.

Beginning with the concert season of 2009/2010 he is a member of the Alliage Quintet.
Over the past five years Hayrapet has played with the National Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, Hermitage State Symphony Orchestra in St.Petersburg, "Folkwang" Chamber Orchestra, "Koelner Sinfonietta" chamber orchestra, Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, Julliard School Orchestra, the Russian State Academic Chamber Orchestra, Armen Hakob Symphonic Orchestra, "Serenada" Chamber Orchestra and the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia.

His impressive list of prizes both in international and national competitions include , in 2001 the National Saxophone Competition in Nantes, in 2002 and 2004 the Saxophone International Competition, in 2002 also the International Wind Instruments Competition, both in France, took second place in 2003 at the International Saxophone Competition in Ukraine, 2003 and went on to win the Yamaha Saxophone Competition in Armenia in 2005 as well as the 9th Adriatical music Competition in Italy;2007. He is a laureate of festivals all over the world.

Since 2001 he has held a scholarship of the International Spivakov Fund (2001),is member of the "New Names"of Armenia program, is supported by the Aram Khachaturian Charitable Fund(2002) and the Guzik Foundation and holds the Dr.Carl Dörken Scholarship.

He speaks German,Russian,Armenian and English, favours the music of D.Schostakovich but can equally be found listening to Rammstein in his relaxation time. It is no wonder then that he secretly wishes to perform his concerts in everyday clothing like jeans and t-shirt. He is well on the way to fulfilling his dream of becoming a successful musician and hopes to one day be able to pass on his knowledge as well as support young musicians.
