Do you want strong, healthy nails? With just a little time and basic care you will find that you have fingernails that others admire.

Growing strong, healthy fingernails can be done with just a little time and care. One of the keys to healthy nails is to make sure you get enough protein in your diet. Take time to think about your nutrition. Are you eating enough protein? Even if you are a vegetarian you can get plenty of protein with beans, nuts and tofu.

Also, are you drinking enough water? Nails that are weak, splitting and fragile can be a result of dehydration.
To start getting stronger nails, try being nice to them. Taking care of your nails will go a long way to getting longer, stronger, and healthier nails. First, try keeping your nails clean and dry. Water makes the nails softer, which will make them easier to break.

The only time wet nails are good is when you want to trim them. Trimming dry nails will cause them to break or to tear. So a good time to trim your nails is after taking a bath or shower. After trimming the nails use a good moisturizer on them. Rub the moisturizer in while massaging the nails at the same time.

Keeping the cuticles pushed back will also help keep nails healthy. And when the nails have slits or small tears, repair them using nail glue or clear polish. Then just leave the nail alone.
You will want to avoid hurting your fingernails. Be careful with harsh chemicals. Chemicals can and will affect your fingernails, causing them to chip and fray. Even the fingernail polish and polish remover can have ingredients that will actually harm your nails—so just be careful.

If you bite your fingernails then you need to stop. This habit can actually do harm to your nails and cause mouth problems. Nail biting is usually caused by stress.

Don't use your nails as a tool such as picking at things, poking, or prying. Using your nails as a tool will weaken them. This causes the nails to break, chip, or fray.

To get your fingernails to grow faster and stronger, try using the keyboard, playing the piano, or even drumming your nails. This gently "shocks" the nail, which is just enough to make them grow stronger. With persistence and time you will have beautiful hands and healthy, strong nails.

  • I herd from my friend that if you rub your nails toghether for one or two minuts every they will grow but i do recomend it because my nails have been growing but any ways i like this vid thx

  • That I know of you shouldn't cut your nails after a shower or bath. Like you said it makes them soft also more flexible therefore making them prone to cracking and chipping. But who knows it might be different for other people.

  • @xilent234 I had this same addiction, then i FORCED myself to stop and started using some nail clippers. Trust me, if you literally make yourself stop, eventually you'll stop. I don't even like doing it anymore and supprizingly its not as hard as you may think it is. :) It'll just be hard the first week or so.

  • I thought i would post XO cos... something bothers me. Why eat more protein specifically? Your matrix goes through mitosis producing the cells for your nail plate, which form as part keratinisation which is protein? No o0? And also (This comes from years of experience with my own nails) Your nails will only be naturally strong depending on the shape of your nail. I can never have strong nails because my plate is quite flat (Even mass layers of sally hensen or opi strengtheners will NOT help)
