LETTER TO NAPLES CITY COUNCIL
Attention: Naples City Council Members
Many individuals over the years have been cited for Naples city ordinance violations.

Many of these individuals where tourists and older citizens, but what is most concerning is the way the City of Naples has handled these citations.

The following are examples of citations filed as misdemeanors:

ANIMALS OR GLASS ON THE BEACH

ALCOHOL ON THE BEACH

RIDING A BICYCLE ON THE PIER OR BEACH

FISHING WITH MORE THAN ONE FISHING POLE

JUMPING FROM THE PIER

Clearly, these are very minor citations and to file them, even after the persons have paid a fine, as a misdemeanor is unjustified and overbearing. This punishment does NOT fit the crime.

What we would like to see is that the City of Naples remove the charges and erroneous fillings as misdemeanors, for the many thousands of individuals charged with similar violations over the years and make it law that these violations are not to be filed or considered as misdemeanors in the future.

Another concern we have is the inadequacy of the Naples City signage, which is written in small letters in English on your signs, near beach access points, which makes it difficult for those not able to read the writing, thus dening them the ability to be law abiding.

We would suggest that the City of Naples adopt a sign that uses large pictures instead of words to demonstrate violations to the general public effectively.

  • Anyone who lives in a tourist destination knows the sheer arogance of the typical touron. They think that they can bring the laws and ordinances from where they live and leave their brains behind. The laws are clearly posted. Act like a visitor and get treated like one. If the locals can't do it, you can't either.

  • I totally agree with you, but do you really think the people in charge of changing these things will watch this? Naples will not change it's stupid rules, I know, I've lived here my whole life. Take the good with the bad, I guess.

  • no glass on beach!?!? wow, what a stupid law (sarcasm). i hate picking up broken bottles and glass shards on the beach in Naples. I tend to see more around winter time......

  • @daniloronin Naples è in Florida, città di 25.000 abitanti, fondata da emigranti napoletani (da napoli in Campania...). Ciao

  • naples has lots of fucked up laws

  • Also; that first beach sign just said "NO GLASS" *NOT no alcohol & that's usually how they bust most people! It's hard to figure out or remember which beaches allow a tasty beverage & which = misdemeanor! & In response to whoever posted the comment about drinking on the beach: There is *NOTHING* WRONG with craving a cocktail on the beach especially around sunset. There IS NO better way to end a hard workday... but then most of the people in Naples FLORIDA! don't notice or care for OUR work... :P

  • OK The deal with Naples & its beaches is totally insane. Trust US= the people who {DO or HAVE} LIVE here & I mean LIVED; NOT owned a house & only STAY in it a few months of the year- which just HAPPEN to coincide with VOTING time! Much of the problem is that many {yes mostly GOPs} people who're really only "PartTimers" or Tourists or SnowBirds vote on what THEY'd LIKE THEIR world to be; then WE the LOCALS ar stuck with BS rules throughout the year. Sorry Tourists: But I Don't feel sorry for ya.

  • Oh look... another nut-case.

  • what naples are you talking about???i suppose you're talking about the states, cause if not, that means you've never been in italy....

  • At the most, the city of Naples holds the persons name for up to a year. There is no community service, jail time, or probation involved. I bet you this is just some disgruntled tourist who went on vacation to naples and got a $250 ticket for.. drinking on the beach?

  • Okay, you people are idiots. Laws are laws. You said so yourself, they are minor offenses, MISDEMEANORS! You know what else is a misdemeanor? A traffic violation or parking ticket. These offenses are simply tickets or fines, and they DO NOT create a criminal record unknown to the person.
