@walterj89 absolutely agree... however (haha) right before impact, you can see the SUV instinctively swerve back to the right, enough, in my opinion, to avoid the impact, had the cop done likewise.

The cop did the right thing. Civilians are taught to turn to the right so that they go back into their lane and possible can keep driving. The cop, however, notices that this guy will eventually cause a wreck to someone and avoids it happening to anyone but himself so he takes the hit on the passenger side and also avoids potentially having to chase this reckless driver down. Watch the road people!

The cop swerved to the left,which he probably shouldnt have done.I just got done studying my car exam book,and it says go to the right and/or break because if the other vehicle sees you,they will swerve back into there lane.

I would say he should have gone to the right just out of principle... although on the flip side, putting that impact on the passenger side of the vehicle probably increases his chance of surviving.
