Vicky must have been a great fan of Moody Blues back in the early 70's, as she covered not one but two songs of them from their legendary 1970 album "Question of Balance". Both "Melancholy Man" (or better "Girl" in Vicky's case) and "Question" included as covers in Vicky's German, Greek, Canadian and UK albums of 1971 (and maybe more, the help of the fans is very much appreciated!!)).
We're listening now to "Reponses", the french cover version of "Question", as it was included in the Greek "Vicky" LP (Cat. No. Philips 6331013), and, also, in the Canadian LP "Je suis". The German version has the title "Hunderttausend Fragen"., included in the "Ich bin Vicky Leandros" LP. In the UK release Vicky performed the song with the original Moody Blues lyrics and title, but the music track has a totally different, more speedy and "poppy", arrangement from the German and French version. Anyway, personally I don't like it very much and I prefer the French and German version arrangement, which is identical. I like very much the powerful and punchy bass line with the fast 12-string guitars.
In the French version Vicky instead of "Question" used the word "Answers" (that's the meaning of the french title), reversing the meaning, in her own way. And in the German one it's not one question but thousands!!
We see the record label of the B-side of the original 1971 Greek "Vicky" LP, on which "Reponse" is the 2nd track, and the dreamy beautiful photo of Vicky on the inner of the cover, a full body one and a close-up.
The equipment used for the transfer is Pro-Ject Debut III turntable with Ortofon OM5E cartridge, a home made phono stage using Burr Brown OPA2134 dual op-amp and styroflex caps, carefully hand-picked for best accuracy of the RIAA curve, and the internal AC-97 soundcard of my desktop PC with Audacity as the recording software. This time I made some adjustments in the phono stage to give it more "punch" in the low-mid frequencies, as it seemed to me somewhat "bright". Hope the sound is not too much "boomie" now! Between line-in of the PC and the output of the phono preamp, I used a single vacuum tube home made line preamplifier. It was made with a single double-triode vintage GE 12AU7 (ECC82) tube from the 50's and IRF610A MOSFET's.
Travel yourselves to the magic of the early 70's golden pop-rock era with Vicky's voice!!!
