Trying to figure out what is causing the pinging sound in my TRAXXAS Slash 4x4. I already cleaned out the rear differential and front was said to be fine after inspection. Could it be bearings or something?

  • At that low speed its next to impossible to test the slipper unless it was set super loose. However you drive line does exibit a lot of slop. You need grease at both ends of the out gears of the diffs and it sounds like one if not both outer ring gears are rubbing.

  • @TheStampede19 Thanks, I know when it is at high speed, it is not as loud as it sounds in this video, but it is louder than I had it out of the box. Is it true that Out of the Box is NOT how it is supposed to sound, but after running it a while that is truly how it is supposed to sound?

  • I'm not getting the sound anymore like described in the video, but it still has never sounded the same as it did out of the box (which I've been told is normal) (Out of the box, its too quiet experts say, and after it gets "worked in" is when it sounds normal)

But anyways, after I tore apart all my gears and diff, cleaned them all and put new lube and grease, it started to sound better.

So, if you are getting the sound, I suggest that you tear apart your truck and redo all the lube and grease.

  • It really sound SO MUCH WORSE when I have the camera on the chassis compared to just normal hearing....sounds like I have every gear stripped out, which I know is not the case....the microphone picked up EVERYTHING!!

  • Mine does the same. Help D:

  • try seperating the front or rear and roll them. You should be able to isolate the sound to the front or rear, and take it from there. after everything is clean, roll them slowly, looking for the bind.

  • mine has a very similar sound. what i found was the pinion at the rear differential hit a point while rotating very slowly. I suspected the pinion was not molded correctly. So, what I did was take my Dremel tool and sand down the teeth very carefully to try and make the shape each tooth to allow better mesh of the spur gear on the diff. It helped a lot, but still very load compared to plastic gearing.

  • It sounds like your pinion gear is too tight against the spur gear. Try propping the truck up on a box, hit the gas, and loosen the motor just a hair until the noise lessens. It is much easier than trying to use the paper method, IMO.

  • your diffs are out of grease

and your gear mesh is way off

  • just bought the slash yesterday and the noise started today. I was running it up my street then all the sudden the grinding noise just like the video. I think I bought a LEMON. This sucks, now i have to tear the rear end apart and investigate..........

  • I have the same problem and haven't found out what's happening. Let me know when you fix it. I thought it was the gears but mine a pretty new
