Matt Cooke Cheapshot on Marc Savard

Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a concussion as a result of an elbow by Matt Cooke at 14:23 of the third period. According to Claude Julien, Savard was knocked unconscious momentarily. Savard will remain in Pittsburgh overnight while his teammates travel to Toronto.

Savard was not transported to a hospital. He will remain at the team hotel tonight with a member of the team's medical staff.

Julien said he expects Savard to be out "for a while." Julien termed it a classic blind-side hit.

"A guy like that has to be suspended," the Bruins coach said. "That's the way I see it, because it's an elbow to the head from the blind side. That's exactly the examples they show of what we've got to get out of this game. We have a guy who's got a concussion. Our best player. He's going to be out for a while. He was [unconscious] on the ice for a bit. That's unacceptable."

Im a HUGE Pens fan, and a fan of Cooke. But this shot sucked. I think Cooke even realized it. At the end of the day, it was cheap, but I dont think he meant to HURT him. But when throwing a cheap shot, thats what happens.. Anyone has the right to bitch about this hit. But, Im still a fan of Cooke and will always be a diehard Pens fan.

This is why I will NEVER (besides Malkin) Respect the Penguins organization. I don't understand the Penguins cry about dirty play and have Cooke on their payroll. Pathetic.

As a Kings fan with no vested interest in either of these teams.....yes, I know Matt Cooke has supposedly "changed" his ways; but this is nothing more than a malicious cheap shot with an intent to injure. It sickened me when I saw this happen, and the fact that Savard's career is basically over (who, by the way is a much better player than Cooke)...Cooke should either be out of the league or giving his salary to Savard. Either way, the day that Cooke plays his last game is a good day for hockey.
