From The Arrows Show - The Arrows performing a raw b-side version of their song "I love rock n roll" in 1976. At the start of this clip the Arrows singer Alan Merrill is chatting with two of the Bay City Rollers, Ian Mitchell and Stuart Wood. Then they go into the song "I love rock n roll" with drummer Paul Varley kicking the song in. Jake Hooker on guitar, Terry Taylor on bass and Alan Merrill camping it up on lead vocals. The Arrows were produced by the legendary Mickie Most.

  • A bit of this was just shown (July16, '11) on BBC2 on the secrets behind rock anthems.

  • @bbsteviebb I see Joan Jett was still struggling with reality still trying to say she wrote the song, even aftey showed the Arrows clip and the songwriters Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker were identified on the screen ! LOL.

  • @bbsteviebb Yes it was. The Arrows were great but the TV host was a jerk.

  • The Arrows do quite a few very different versions of this song and lots of other of their songs on youtube that were on the Arrows television show.

  • Right, there are also lots of youtube versions of the band's "First Hit" and "Dont Worry Bout Love" that sound extremely different.

  • So Nigel Tufnel had a brief stint on drums, how about that.

  • @vivicola It seems Ms. Jett seemed disoriented in the interview and also confused about what constitutes the difference between "songwriting" and "arranging" a song. Her 1981 arrangement and interpretation was excellent, but she wrote nothing of this song. The Arrows 1975 version was the songwriting part, 100%.

  • A-F'ing-mazing performance!

  • This is a bit like the b side version on Arrows EMI reissue "A's B's and Rarities" !!

  • I love Alan's red espadrilles!
