The infamous "goal that never was". Roy Carroll drops a speculative effort from Pedro Mendes over the goalline, but the match officials miss it. The game ended 0-0. Not my cap (Except for the title and the slow-mo bit at the end).

In fairness to the linesman it is quite hard to see the ball whilst wearing those thick red tinted glasses.

I could see it when watching it live from a much worse angle than the linesman

if it wasnt obvious the ball crossed the line, surely you would ask yourself why carrol has ended up in the back of the net!

It's not the fault of the linesman.. The strike was out of nowhere and thus the assistant had no chance to reach the goal-line faster than the ball.

It seems like goal line technology is coming in now. However before it came in they could have just used instant replay. As for your point about retrospectively changing decisions, there's a difference between a ball that crossed the line and say a free kick in the middle of the park. They could have just made a simple rule - only use replays for bgoal line disputes, penalties and goals flagged as offside. I still think they should use replays for offside goals and penalties.

Can't do that, it would open up a massive can of worms. You'd end up retroactively changing so many decisions. Besides which, the goal itself isn't the issue - the difference between the one point they earned for the draw and the three they would have got if they'd won is the bigger deal, and you can't go taking points away from United and giving them to Spurs because of a referee error.

What's needed is goal-line tech (thankfully imminent) to prevent this from happening again.
