A vintage- antique- 1922 model DT-600 Deforest Crystal Radio,LCF School School. it contains no tubes and uses gallium solid natural occurring crystal to detect the radio signals. Earphones are required to hear the audio. The unit uses no external power; however, you can still hear an AM radio just fine, provided the station has a strong signal. DeForest was the inventor of the vacuum tube, but many other clever folks helped to transform the tube into a really practical device. This DeForest Crystal Radio is on display at Floyd Professional Center, at the Village Green in Floyd (Suite #8). Floyd Professional Center highlights the skills and talents of Floyd County's people, while coaxing visitors and residents toward a strong, wealthy, technology-based future. Floyd Professional Center is an appealing stop at the Village Green, Floyd Virginia, for visitors and customers, so come on by!! @fishtankbank Hi Thanks for the comment -- We all collect different things - I have been working on my collection of electronic stuff for over 50 years and do have a few choice pieces - most are nice but routine. My brother is a collector of transistor radios and has no interest in my computer things. Why don't you do a video of some of your tvs -- by the way I did pick up a 1948 Halicrafters tv at the Dayton Hamvention two years ago - it is very interesting for me.

Beautiful old radio! Thanks for the vid! FYI: the detector crystal is more like to be galena (lead sulfide) of iron pyrites rather than gallium arsinide. Gallum arsinide has a high barrier voltage and probably wouldn't work as a detector without a bias battery. If it did reach it's barrier voltage it would light up. It's the material used for modern light emitting diodes (LEDs).
Love to see more radios in your collection.

Hi Lashon -- thank you for the comment on the crystal galena -- I should have been a lillte more careful about the name - I guess the old memory is not as good as years past. As time goes on I will post more of the collection . Dave
