The 2009 Flathead season was the best yet. John and I caught 3 fish over 35 lbs and a very healthy amount of fish from 25 to 30+ lbs.If you dont already know flatheads are a new species of catfish in the Susquehanna River, and most of the other large Chesapeake Bay tributaries. Flatheads are not the channel catfish that we all grew up catching on the Susquehanna River. Chicken liver, hot dogs, and stinkbait dont work to catch flatheads with any kind of consistency especially adult fish no matter what Gradpa or Uncle Billybob tell you. Live bait is you best option followed by fresh cut bait. It takes preparation, dedication, hard work, and patience to Catch fish like these On the Susquehanna, and its is a hell of alot of fun.

  • Are they good for eating?

  • @GlockNinja Sorry it took so long man. Yes they are good for eating but I personally don't like the taste of catfish

I am more of a haddock and Orange ruffly guy. Shoot a XD yet ?

  • Alot of people say a oily skin fish like chubs and suckers are a better choice in the fall time, and that may be. The logic behind it makes alot sense. My experience has been if you throw a live bait close to the fish on most nights they will eat it spring, summer, or fall. I believe the exception to be the the shad run on the very lower streachs of the river.

  • Thanks for the comment Md. You can go wrong with chubs. We use gills most of time, but when I come across some chubs or any fish legal and big enough to be bait I will happily throw it in the bucket.
