I finished my eggs and put my plate in the sink. Kevin finished and did the same. Nick came in, rubbing his eyes. "Morning," Kevin grinned. I laughed. Nick's hair was a jungle. It was everywhere. "Hey! Don't laugh at my hair! Oh...Um, Joe swimming?" Nick added softly. Kevin nodded. They both sighed. "Hey, I'm going to go take a walk down at the water. Maybe swim a little myself." I said. "Okay. Beware of Joe." Kevin replied. I nodded. I went out the front door and walked a few minutes down to the water. Joe was sitting on the sand, wet, hugging his knees to his chest. He looked like he was shaking. I silently went to sit next to him. I knew he heard me. I sat hugging my knees to my chest also. "What do you want?" he whispered. I knew he was crying. "What's wrong?" I asked, not looking at him. I just stared out at the waves. "Me." he mumbled, starting to cry harder. Now I know why Nick and Kevin seemed depressed when they talked about Joe swimming. He came out here to cry also. "What's wrong with you?" I whispered. I didn't mean the part about him being scary and mad all the time. "You never caught the part when Kevin said that we were STUCK on the island did you?!" he asked louder so I could hear over his sobs. Then I realized Kevin DID say that. "How are you guys stuck?" I asked quietly. "Our parents sent us here. We have absolutely no communication, so we can't get someone to come get us." he answered, more quietly. It was harder to hear because he was crying louder. He took some deep breaths. "Why'd they send you here?" I whispered, confused? "The three of us are in a band. We started taking it badly. We began getting conceited...stuck-up...But they had it after our latest song. Paranoid. It's about how we see ourselves everywhere we go. [kinda, but it's like that in this story, so ya] They were getting sick of our attitude, and they definitely didn't want our little brother growing up to that. So they sent us here! They come here every...couple months to make sure we have food and drinks and everything else we need. No phones, no computers." he was getting louder with anger, and his crying was getting worse, too. I felt the need to hug him. I didn't know what to do. I looked at him. He was looking at me, his face soaked with tears. "How long are you supposed to be here?" I asked. It was hard, looking at him. "A few years," he growled, "My parents don't know if THAT'S long enough to get us over ourselves." he rolled his eyes, despite the tears leaking out of them. I nodded. "That's horrible. They didn't have to go to that extreme." I said, looking back at the ocean. "Well," we wiped his face, "do you have ANY memories?" I looked down. "One," I whispered. "Is it bad?" he asked, taking deep breaths to slow his crying. "Yes. I was on a boat." I looked back at him, telling him the memory with fierce details.
