Thanks for saying this all, but silverbeet is not good for budgies.
Some say it develops gradual bowel problems, others say it doesnt
digest well for them, but there are lots of reasons.
:) You have some beautiful budgies too, what are there names? i have one, named Charlie and he is absolutely gorgeous!

@Queencaboo I have heard things for and against silverbeet - its the oxalic acid in the plant that affects them badly. My impression was that it was ok to feed parrots silverbeet, but just not to do it everyday - in moderation only. Thanks for speaking up, i will edit that part of the video to offer a caution!

i never thought of using wild grass seed. in the spring i'm going to let a section of my yard grow to seed (it'll have to be a small section due to borough restrictions) you sure think outside the box!! How many birdies do you have all together? thanks for the lovely vids, keep them up, they're always informative!

Im glad to share my ideas with you and the world! I have 7 parrots - 5 budgies, and 2 cockatiels.
In australia it is quite common for people to pick wild grass seeds for their birds, i have seen people do it since i was a kid.
If you avoid cutting the edges of the lawn, you should get a reasonable amnt of seedheads from that, our grass invades our gardens so i have let a few spots become overrun for seedhead harvesting, but it hardly takes up any space...

Great video! I'm gonna try to use some of those. Did you research the healthinest of the seds though?

good question - I didnt research the nutrition content of the fresh seeds, but at least being fresh will boost the nutritional content generally, as typical dry bird seed is a limited source of nutrition. I would not give my birds soley fresh wild seed, or any particular food, i always like to give them a wide variety of seeds, sprouted seed, grass shoots and seedheads, vegies, herbs, egg, native australian plants, and occasionally cereals. Things vary seasonally!
