Congressman Paul Ryan (WI-01)
April 29, 2009
America spends more than any other country on health care, yet 47 million people continue to go uninsured. Meanwhile, families and small businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their ever-increasing medical bills. The call for real and fundamental health care reform has never been as urgent as it is right now.
Unfortunately, Congress is heading in the wrong direction. Instead of tackling the root problems that drive this crisis, legislation is being proposed that would result in a massive expansion of the federal governments involvement over health care. Congress must work to fulfill the mission of health security that remains out of reach for millions of Americans and millions more should we fail to address the unsustainable explosion of Medicare and Medicaid, which are going insolvent.
For these reasons, I have proposed an alternative approach to reforming our health care system. My bill, A Roadmap for Americas Future, puts patients and doctors in control of their health care decisions. It fundamentally changes the mechanics of existing health care system while strengthening the promise of health care and retirement security for all Americans. I encourage you to visit the following links to learn more about my specific alternatives.

Ryan, you want to give vouchers to retirees so they can shop the for-profit insurance industry? Corporate insurance is making record profits by offering limited-benefit plans with high deductibles and by cost shifting their claim losses back onto the enrollees with exorbitant premiums, especially those considered high risk, such older folks with pre-existing conditions. To abandon Americans who have worked hard and contributed so much--Ryan, you are as un-American as anyone I can imagine.

If anyone is stupid enough to tell you privatizing health care will make it more affordable ask them how much people in Canada, Germany or France pay for it. Then say
"I thought so!"

Never back down Congressman Ryan. I don't care if you are the only one left in Washington who stand up for the conservative beliefs that you do... you are quickly turning into a true beacon of hope for millions. Thank you.
