This patient had a prior scalp reduction and a punch graft procedure from decades earlier, which left him with a pluggy hairline and punch scars across his mid-back scalp. The patient was unhappy with these results, and the enduring thinness on his vertex and front of his scalp made matters worse. He wanted the thin areas filled in, the hairline refined, and the punch scars concealed.
Head donor hair in this case was insufficient to carry out a successful hair transplant. He needed a body hair transplant. Thus, Dr. Umar extracted a total of 5500 FUE grafts derived from body hair. There were 3000 grafts from the chest, arms, stomach, and legs used to fill in the front and refine the hairline; while 2500 form the chest and beard gave density to the vertex and to masked the old punch scars.
