@Rachen30 The 460 S&W Magnum indeed is a Magnum variation of an existing cartridge - 2, actually. It has a longer case than both the .45 Colt and the .454 Casull cartridges.

The 500 S&W Magnum is a 'Magnumized' version of the 500 Linebaugh cartridge.

@JasterMaster777 Hmm that is interesting. Your comment made me do a little extra research, and indeed the .500 S&W is not a magnum of any existing round. However, Smith&Wesson, and the outdoor sports retailer Cabelas always refer to that gun and it's ammunition as the ".50 Magnum". They also call the .460 S&W and the .480 Ruger as "magnum" rounds, but they are also not beefed up versions of existing cartridges. Those things are wickedly powerful though. I mean wrist-breaking powerful.

I was waiting this whole episode to hear about Elmer Keith. You cannot talk about Magnums without mentioning his contributions.

Nor did they speak of other manufacturers like Ruger about their .44 Magnum. Just S&W.
