I do use the melodic minor scale, but not as an end in itself. The ebook of Jazz Guitar Licks that this clip is trying to promote, focuses on melodic ideas that are derived from melodic minor, harmonic minor, diminished, blues, chromatic and other scales. I will often incorporate notes from two or more of these scales in one lick, but never actually think in terms of scales when playing. The sound or music is the goal.
