  • Dear OM,

i received my 8410 yesterday, amp works perfect with 30input /1500 output

but i noticed input SWR on my rig almost 15. to 1.6, is it normal for this amp??

also i received a CD along with this consisting only usb drivers with no software for monitoring..

  • @a45wh

See my post on Asktheham regarding the USB serial telemetry data.

  • GM, tnx for the info.. i could get the data of my amp..

with the help of alpha i could solve the double click sound of my relay, updated the firmware to latest ...

secondly i noticed some input SWR issue on 20,17,15,12 meter i have high SWR between 1.5 to 1.7 if the drive power is 35 watts to 37 watts, according to alpha it is normal.... is it true???

i am able to get the full legal output power

if possible please share me your amps SWR plot just for my information and comparison..

There are a pair of toriode coils on the tube deck board (behind the access plate under the amp) that you can adjust the input matching with. The coil with more turns is used for 160m-17m and the coil with fewer tuns is used for 12m-10m only. I found you can have 1.5:1 or less on 160m-17m but not on both 12m and 10m at the same time. I dont use 12m much so I just tuned it for 10m and will use the radios antenna tuner when needed. So yes ~1.5:1 is normal.

  • hi..very nice amp.. i am planning to buy, how good when compared to alpha 91b? is there any equivalent russian tube available..??

  • @a45wh

I can not compare the 8410 to the 91b directly as I have never used a 91b. I can say, with a few small adjustments the 8410 will run the same output as a 91b or better with more headroom for plate dissipation. The USB serial com is nice for monitoring (and in some cases adjusting) amp parameters. You cant do that with the 91b.
