  • i'm not a big fan of bringing music into politics, unless the music can somehow represent the cultural, class, and age diversity of the constituency -which it's unlikely that it ever will. it's important to focus on the politics, and to be as inclusive as possible for a strong inclusive movement. just one perspective.

  • Music and politics has a history going back hundreds of years.

"Rock a by baby" was a "coded" song about overthrowing the King of England.

Politics is about communication and many people CLEARLY LIKE hearing political music. If you look at the many of the videos I put up in the last couple of days you'll see the tie in.

Different people are reached in different ways. There's no "one way" in a diverse society and constituency.

The only politics relevant to Black People today are the politics of REVOLUTION!- Chairman Bobby Seale

  • yes. i agree.

  • People often criticized the Greens for being too "white middle class" claiming that's why the part wasn't progressing.

Diversity means being able to play Woody Guthrie, NY Oil, Jello Biafra in the same room and we can all feel part of the same group. We appreciate and learn about our very different cultural expressions for our very same issues.

Inclusive and diverse instead of homogenization.

  • that doesn't mean silencing any group. that means taking care to not build a movement around any one cultural. class or age group. that means making the effort and taking care to be inclusive to be able to draw the diversity in and the real numbers of people seeking a progressive political movement in to be able to have a political effect...

  • i hope you're right, though i don't know that you are. if you're wrong, you may end up with a "hip hop party". the party may feel great, but you'll be too small of a group to have the clout to bring about the political changes we all need. people from many groups need a social justice political movement, and i think that movement needs to express as much cultural inclusiveness and diversity as possible to draw in the diversity and numbers to get the results we all need together.

  • The Hip Hop community has felt alienated for YEARS. They're glad they're included.

There is no one language. A whole bunch of white folks are now appreciate Hip Hop culture and are getting the lyrics.

Woodie Guthrie lives and he comes in different flavas now.

Former Democratic District Leader who is ALSO a former MC(a type of raper) crossed party lines to support Rosa. It's the Hip Hop activism that did that.

Sorry but the results I see shows you're wrong. It's not a "theory" but tangible.

  • ...or, don't make music such a prominent part of a political statement. you will only leave various groups who want to participate in a movement feeling alienated, unwelcome, and unrepresented. just something to consider.

  • in a diverse society, if you want a viable movement, you need an inclusive approach. i thought kucinich's super white music was a problem in the political sphere, and i think that any specific type of youth music will also not represent a diverse movement. didn't you see the older woman standing behind clemente looking uncomfortable? strength will only come through inclusivity. i'm not saying shut your music up. but, if you're going to include music, you should include a diversity of music.
