@nymphrenic Nonsense. Protestant America is far far more devout than any part of Catholic Europe. Anglicanism's actual problem is that it's just popery without the Pope, which is why it has failed to excite anyone for a century. The market of ideas in America produced a far more narcotic brand of Christianity that inspires radicals today in all 50 states.

@5756catherine1 David Starkey is nicknamed 'The rudest man in Britain' and truth be told he has earned that name. But I never sense malice, at least unprovoked malice, in what he says. He's straight to the point and lacks tact. Most of the time he's right in what he says, sometimes he's not but when he speaks it's really to inform and to try to make you understand. Though if political correctness is important to you, stay away from Starkey because be pulls no punches.

Love listening to David Starkey. He has the gift of the gab. Must be careful not to abuse it though. Sometimes I hear laughs coming from the audience, but you can tell that the laughter sometimes comes from shock or ambarassment. Well he has survived into old age whatever comments he has ever made, so I doubt he will keep himself in check now :)

David Starkey manipulates is view on history to get his own personal viewpoint across.

Yeah, we know the King Henry VIII wasn't foolish enough to believe the pope about what is doctrine and what isn't. Good thing he knew better than the pope about Christian doctrine, otherwise the English crown could have effectively eradicated Christianity from Great Britain if the King was, in fact, the fool, and not a divinely appointed head of any church of Christ.
And we all know that didn't happen. Nope.

What's the use of having monarchies especially in "1st world" countries in which they preach democracy and freedom for all to the world? Isn't monarchy so medieval and backwards? I'm just asking I think everyone should be equal and leaders should be elected democratically.

@ImperatorDominus - he never stated the President was an elected King (the "George III w/o a wig" reference was a joke), he is merely stating that monarchy is a universal, not a "crowned head" per se, but that humans always set up a sort of "pyramid" structure of power (monarchy meaning power invested in one, or seemingly in one person). Even though the US President doesn't have absolute power, people sure like to think he does, as they always blame the Pres. for everything, no matter who he is.

@Fightosaurus if you ever get the chance to attend one of his lectures, do so. I really enjoyed one he gave a few years back out in Los Angeles.
