And with regards to the power line landing. That is also stupidity. These modern day rectangular parachutes are controllable!! This means you can steer them to where you want them to go. If the student has any intelligence he would have turned away from the power lines. Students also have a radio to aid there landing, so he may not have heard or listened to what he was guided to do.

this person was not unlucky. HE WAS F-ING STUPID!!! He pulled his cutaway handle instead of his deployment hackie, or pilot chute. The instructor was attempting to guide the students hand to the pilot chute, but instead he pulled his cutaway handle. The instructor then deployed the main, but since the cutaway handle was already pulled, the main parachute immediately detached. There was no bad luck in this, just stupid and terrible narration that is completely inaccurate.
