Wtf when I fought him he petrified me like crazy and they always landed.

Yeah they can be really nasty sometimes. Thankfully he wasn't in petrify mode.

That's what happened to me while I was playing earlier today. I fought this specific Trick, he cast Petrify but my Mirror rebounded it & he got Petrified, & I killed him & I won a Ruby. I was happy. My next Trick though later on only got me a Topaz, I should have saved near it just in case. Oh well, there are more chances coming up for good Jewels.

that is usually why I keep the mirror way back when he's much easier if he petrifies himself :)

I think the Trick is a take from Dragon Quest's Man Eating Chests...astronomical attack power and such.

If you make a save state during a battle with a trick, you can keep resetting each time you win the battle until you get a better gem at the end. I usually go for a Sapphire which is worth 4 or 5 Topazes.

Trick has good defense against spells, fighters are better against it, if "spell-users" haven't got any decent spells against it.

Trick also knows 5 different spells itself (Heal1, Poison, Petrify, Agility and HPCatcher), shame it uses some of them quite rare.

With the stat-increasing seeds, I usually save before using them, and then reset if I don't get a decent stat increase.

Nice work handling the trick at your level; I usually couldn't defeat it until being around level 11-12. I usually get a topaz from him, too, although he's dropped a ruby a few times.
