Osage heartwood is the best but that white sapwood may do your nifty bow in as it doesn't hold up well to tension under bending. If you want to make easy killer bows check out red oak board bow buildalongs on youtube. A few bucks at the hardware store = 90% of the work cut out for you. Also check out the Traditional Bowyer's Bible. There's 4 volumes, if I remember right, 1&2 cover osage more. Thousands of years combined experience, you'll find no better resource to make sticks into bows.

Good effort. If you don't mind a bit of constructive criticism, read on! It's best to season the wood, before you actually start shaping the bowstave, basically, leave it till' its dry. Use Ash wood, for the bowstave, in my experience, it has a faster release than osage, and you can generally get a higher poundage from Ash wood. Although Osage is very flexible, its better for laminated longbows. Tiller both the belly, and the sides of the bow, and whip a spint onto the bow, as an arrow rest.
