The İstanbul Boğazı, perhaps better know as the Bosphorus, is one of the busiest shipping straits in the world. It's a key waterway connecting the Back Sea to the Sea of Marmara, allowing Central Asian and Russian oil producers to export to the wider world. But the strait is not easy to navigate. In the last 50 years there have been more than 450 serious accidents -- something the Turkish government is keen to eradicate - as Howard Johnson reports from Istanbul.
