  • @shotokanshdn 10 ?? reaLLY I got mine in 6

  • heh.,..robotic it is...but this ( hand tech / jodan uke) looks however better than kicks (no 5)....which looke more like ballet than karate.

  • people say karate is not effective on the street.if so how did the okinawans fight off the samurai.i agree its not going to make a feeble person a world beater you have to be natuarally tough or have a little athletic ability

  • I think to train in 2 or more styles is not wrong as long as they complement your martial education taking into account different fighting distances and circunstances, without confusing your body mechanics, for example, boxing can helps us with infighting and realism, Judo certainly can improve throwing and sweeps, jujutsu can bring a good insight into joint locking &ground fighting, and finally kobudo can teach us about weapons and their distancing.

  • the technical & tactical stages of Shotokan karate regardless of belt level are: 1. positions- blocks- punches-kicks-chops- breathing- body conditioning- displacements. 2. some joint locks- sweeps- stomps-some throws- some takedowns- elbows, knees, open handed strikes-some strangle holds. 3. vulnerable points/ atemi- vital points/ kyusho - injury treatment /kuatsu. all keeping the Kihon, Kata, kumite teaching format. BUT most practitioners in the west. remain on first level, why I don´t know

  • I understand what you mean, it took me to 10 years to get up to my nidan.

  • most karate-ka are around fifty when they get their 2 DAN and they started when they are around fifteen. That says allot about real karate.

  • You cannot say that Karate is not efective on the street, even if you have practiced different styles and got 2 or 3 dan. That means nothing. This is not about Karate or any martial art. It`s about the karateka or martial artist. Perhaps you lost your combat on the street simply because the other guy was better than you at that particular time. Understood?

  • but excuse me it is effective on the street! sum1 tried to attack me and i gave him a kizami zukim n gyaku zuki both jodan, and he was clean out !!!!

  • That is your problem man...u say that u did 2 styles, why not focus one 1 and get the best of it!!!...and why u say not effective on the street???...that is NOT the aim of martial arts...you got it all wrong if you just wanted to go out and beat people up! just wonder, 2 and 3rd dan in 2 styles???...how long did you train for or u bought them???...some real masters and budokas train all their life and hardly reach an 8th Dan!
